2014 BMW F800GS ADVenture

F800GS-Adventure

I was at my dealer the other day and speaking with Sheldon, the informative and more than a sales guy we buy our ADV bikes from…and he was telling more about his father who bought the F800 ADV model.  Sheldon tells me and I have heard this from other owners, that the ADV F8 is certainly worth the extra coin.  If Cheryl and I were going to buy again, and if this version was out we would have bought it over the standard GS.  Why?  The extra’s BMW have added to this bike as well as the larger tank seem to actually work…such as the almost upright touring shield.  I hear that it actually works for many riders of all sizes and has a great mounting location for your GPS.   Continue reading

Section Two – Baie Comeau to Chibougmau

TNE Phase Two

Section Two – Baie Comeau to Chibougamau

This chapter of the True North East route could best be described as remote.  The route begins in the town of Baie Comeau.  This town has a population of approximately 26, 000 and has been around since 1889.  A few years later the first saw mill arrived and the town has been functioning as a resource town ever since.  Located on the shores of the ST Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Manicouagan River, the town is not without its charm.  This is the last place to gear up for a few days of the route and the town offers typical modern amenities for a town of its size.

The route leaving Baie Comeau follows gravel roads for 380 kilometres before you’ll find the next location for fuel.  Needless to say you must stock up on fuel prior to leaving this town.  This chapter of the TNE is also used for the Trans Canada Adventure Trail (TCAT) and was created by Fabric Tremblay.  Fab is local to the area and without his local knowledge it would have been very difficult to have created this chapter of the route, Thanks!

‘Adventure Riding’

There has been a lot of talk recently about what the term ‘Adventure Riding’ really means. Is it blasting down a gravel highway on a fully loaded 1200cc motorcycle? Doing single track on a light enduro style motorcycle with nothing but a backpack? Or is it riding two-up with everything you own, ready to take on the next continent? We feel adventure riding is a way to exercise your creativity. It can be whatever you want it to be. So don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Spring Newbie / Social Ride March 25, 2012

Cheryl is sleeping in and I am heading out to the annual Spring ride sponsored by many local businesses and of course Dual Sport BC.  Here is what I can expect for the bigger ADV bikes and I will probably be the only grrl riding an ADV bike.  If there are any other grrls there they will most likely be on a dirt bike.  That is at least what I have seen in the past on these rides.  Too bad more grrls do not get out.  Hopefully if I don’t crash I can get some decent pics and video.  Wish me luck! ;-)
