We just LOVE reading about stories like this…we determination! Good luck Adam!
We headed out from Maple Ridge to Shelton, Washington on Sunday morning, Nov. 6th with our goal to be at the Gerbing’s Headquarters on Monday, Nov. 7th. The whole purpose of the trip was to get to Gerbing’s, trade in our old liners for their new micro-wire liners and to deal with some warranty items like our Y connectors. So, we decided to make a trip out of this and carry it over 2 nights. We are trying to get away on the bikes every 5 weeks for fun rather than just commuting.
The Utah Backcountry Discovery Route, or UTBDR, is a scenic driving route across the state of Utah, from Arizona to Idaho, for dual-sport adventure motorcycles and 4×4 vehicles. This 1000 mile long south-north route uses mostly un-paved backroads and will pass through a number of iconic locations including Moab, Valley of the Gods, the Abajo and La Sal Mountain Ranges, Nine Mile Canyon, and the northern Wasatch Mountains.
Some sections they refer to being as technical look ridiculously technical for big bikes but in a fun way.
Just made a short video showing the last few days of our Cross Country trip last year on our Beemers. We were doing our best to avoid heading home. Interesting though we got home August 11th 2010 last year and this year we ended on august 11th, 2011. That was not planned.
Last years trip was 26 days with riding for 23. We saw 17 States, 5 provinces and did about 11870 KM. This year we were away for 44 days, rode for about 37 and did almost 14,000 KM.
THAT’S A WRAP FOR OUR SUMMER ADVENTURE 2011
Most likely will be starting a new BLOG just about our motorcycle travels in general and no matter what bikes we own that will be our BLOG from now on. Feel free to leave a comment if anyone thinks this is a good idea.
Really like this picture
Cheryl and her Sour Toe Cocktail certificate from the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City
Look at what Cheryl is looking at……too cute this little squirrel was
To be Continued! :-)
This picture meant a lot to us because in the summer 2010 on our way home from New York we had to pass this only to be able to return this summer 2011 to make that right hand turn up the Alaska Highway….that was an awesome feeling!
While we miss the street comfort of the Tigers, I welcome back the great gas mileage we are getting out of our Beemers especially for commuting to work. High 30 to low 40 MPG for the Tigers our entire trip compared to high 50 – low 60 MPG on our Beemers. Big difference when it comes to fuel consumption. Just FYI. :-)
And this is why we adventure ride…roads to no where and some where…the best of times was when we saw no cars or even other bikers. Just the two of us for mile and miles!
Well, seeing other bikers every so often not so bad!
Depending on your web browser you can search the archives or find the calendar on the Home Page and click on the highlighted dates. I posted almost everyday and the BLOG started in April. So, just FYI for those who have emailed me and asked, I thought I would just put it out there that all previous posts links with all the pictures etc can be found on our Home page by looking at the Archive months or by scrolling down to the end of the page to the calendar and take it from there.
Hopefully this makes sense and helps those out that are having issues with navigating this BLOG. Any questions or comments please feel to post them here to help others out as well. Thanks! Advgrrls
As someone pointed out on the ADV Rider forum
44 Days – we also had free lodging in Anchorage for 4 nights so that brings us down to actually 40 days of riding.
Gas and Lodging
$2447 + $1664 = $4111 / 44 days =$93.43 per day / 2 people = $46.71 a day per person
And to add
Groceries, including food, snacks, beer etc…
Ferries, flight over McKinley and other side track adventures
Total for 2 of us
We thought it was going to be much higher.
Total for 44 days is: $2447
