ENDUROPALE TOUQUET 2011 by Bastien Roger

A very dramatic video in black & white of a motocross race.  Really amazing to watch!  Enjoy.

Really should be watched full screen!

Taking a chance here!

Not trying to get political or even stir the pot….but this video is such a great display of relationships and love that I feel the need to share it.  Congrats to the Australians for putting this together but having said that…such a shame in this day and age we even question or criticize relationships between anyone who truly loves another.  Sorry for the break in adventure action but like I have said this is a BLOG about many things including raising awareness.

It’s TIME!

OUR 2010 BEEMERS MEGA PIC POST

We have both owned 2010 BMW F650GS aka F798Gsa bikes since 2010. Check back here every so often for new pics!

We have made this street version of the GS family more off-road worthy by adding some crash protection, better tires, added a beak to look more like its big brother the 800GS, have changed our chains to DID, we use Galfer brake pads which we feel last longer and are better than OEM, hand guards, Fastway pegs, Jesse Safari 8 inch luggage, Denali auxiliary lights, better headlamps bulbs than OEM, built-in heat controllers for our Gerbing’s heated gear, headlamp protector, larger Cee Bailey wind shield, we use K&N oil filters, semi synthetic oil, change this at about 15,000 KM, Renazco seat, Wunderlich tank bags, Kaoko lock (not used that much), rad protector and some other protection covers, side stand extender made by MOTOROVERLAND (MOD), ( we used a Touratech side extender for the 2010 trip) and perhaps a few things we have over looked.

Another reason to do this BLOG is for those who are just embarking on ADV riding or wanting to buy this DS bike hopefully you guys and gals might just learn a few things that we have tried and either succeeded or not.  We are not professionals but every day average riders so we hope most can relate.  if there are any questions please post here.  For the guys and gals out there who ride, feel free to read the comments and share your own success stories or secrets.  The more info we can provide here the better the newbies will feel asking questions in public.

Remember there are NO dumb questions!

Here are some of our pics of the Beemers….

Also, here are 2 maps of the States and Provinces we have been to….we have so much riding to do in north America!

Simon Pavey – DAKAR 2011

Beginning of this video is bit too dramatic and the music over the top…but after you get through that it’s a pretty good  showing off the Dakar challenge from 2011. No HD though.

I read some where that at least one competitor actually dies per Dakar race per year.

A fantastic video of Simon Pavey’s experiences in the Dakar Rally 2011.

Craghoppers were proud to be a sponsor of off-road biking legend Simon Pavey in his 8th Dakar Rally. You can read all about Simon’s epic adventure on our blog…

Extreme Frontiers–November 28th in the UK only

Extreme Frontiers – 28th Nov Channel 5, 9pm

Hey, guys, I’ve just finished my UK Theatre Tour – which has been great, but I’m so excited that the new TV show is about to air.  Extreme Frontiers Canada is out on Monday the 28th of November on Channel Five. Filmed earlier in the year, we had an absolute blast in what must be one of the most incredible countries on the planet – Canada. The people, the places and the history – they have it all. I rode most of trip on my trusty BMW Adventure, but also done lots of wacky and sometimes scary activities – climbing with Barry Blanchard, of ‘Cliff Hanger’ fame, riding bulls in a rodeo and camping in true wilderness – a real Deliverance feel to that bit! Anyway, we’re planning to do a Twitter campaign after the show airs in the UK – but you can join in from anywhere around the world and send me your questions about the show and the adventure.  Use the hash tag #extremefrontiers and we’ll be able to do a trawl through them!  Ok – Speak soon about Extreme Frontiers!

2012 KAWASAKI KLR650 – RTW BIKE?

2012 Kawasaki KLR 650 | Preview

Tom Wera

IS THE KLR THE BEST RTW DS BIKE?  My Colleague Ken owns one, he has been making modifications and we have talked about this topic.  Perhaps this is the best bike to take around the world…simple to maintain, inexpensive, reliable, light and can handle all the luggage too.
Seat is high but who cares eh if the bike makes the trip.  No computer uploads/downloads, not a bad idea, not complex…again a plus…so, questions for the readers out there….what do you think?  RTW, just an ADV bike, commuter or all of the above?

Because I LOVE Wild Life again!

Just watch and hopefully appreciate the beauty in these amazing creatures.

I will let the video speak for itself.  A BLOG not only about bikes and adventures but my love for any thing wild.

HARDER THAN I THOUGHT!

Tried to take some pics on my way home from work during Friday rush hour and I was not very successful.  Plus, the beautiful day turned gray.  But here are some pics anyway of my hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, where I have been working since 1998.  I am just about to embark on a new career but more about that in the New Year. 😉

Heading into the free parking cage we have at work

In the Market for a new Helmet Cam??????

Point of View Cameras has done a fantastic job reviewing and showing how the most popular brands compare to one another.  We own the Contour + HD camera presently and so far is seems like a decent camera.  I like the idea of being able to use an external mic.  The mic is an extra add on, you have to buy it on your own.  Contour provides the port on the camera and a cable to plug in your mic.  I am not too sure I like the way this camera records in the sense of colour saturation, but I have been told it is more natural in colour and I am not used to it.  Jury is still out.

I should have recorded my ride home from work today. The gusts of wind made my BMW F650Gs feel like a kite at times and the pools of water because of the pouring rain were like huge PONDS…it was actually fun! 😉 Continue reading “In the Market for a new Helmet Cam??????”

BABY GORILLA IS BORN

Just because I Love any wild life even if it is in a zoo.

We are thrilled to announce the birth of a western lowland gorilla! The little female is the first of this species to be born at the zoo since 2005. The yet-to-be named newborn seems healthy, as does Bana, a 16-year-old first-time dam. Sire Kwan, a 22-year-old silverback, stays protectively close to both.

“Bana has taken very well to motherhood,” said Curator of Primates Maureen Leahy. “She is showing all of the signs of a doting new mom and is appropriately tender toward and watchful over her infant.”

From 1970 to 2005, 48 gorillas were born at Lincoln Park Zoo. Each precious new arrival—like this 49th one—reflects the zoo’s commitment to the conservation of this critically endangered species.

The newborn is on exhibit tomorrow within Lincoln Park Zoo’s Regenstein Center for African Apes. Until you can stop by to say hello, view the western lowland gorilla fact sheet here: http://bit.ly/t71ThR

A Baby Gorilla for Lincoln Park Zoo

In Asia Trailer by Vincent Urban

Such talented cinematographers out there and we get the privilege of seeing their work for free online.  Three guys Adventuring through Asian using their DSLR cameras to boot.  Amazing how cameras have come a long way with HD functions.

In Fall 2010, Stefan, Clemens and I were traveling through SouthEast Asia for 2 months. We shipped Stefans Landrover to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and then drove up through Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Of course, Clemens and I brought our little DSLRs to capture every great moment of this memorable journey.

I started editing the 5 full-episodes for this.
