2012 KTM 990 Adventure

**Yesterday I posted the 690 Enduro R and got a few comments on our Facebook page but not here.  Any comments on this as the ultimate ADV machine to ride around Iceland??  Over kill?  Does anyone think this would be a better choice for a place like Iceland?**

2012 KTM 690 Enduro R

Back to 2012 KTM Motorcycle Model Review Page

NOW WOULDN’T THIS MAKE AN EXCELLENT BIKE TO  RIDE AROUND ICELAND????????????  ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS BIKE?  DO YOU LIKE IT?  ADD SOME SOFT LUGGAGE, EXTRA POWER OUTLETS, A SHIELD AND OFF YOU GO….I CAN SEE THIS BIKE AS AN ADVENTURE BIKE.  Maybe not a bike with enough of a tank capacity even with extra fuel? We are not into changing out tanks for a bigger one.

LIGHT WEIGHT, RELIABLE I WOULD HOPE…POWERFUL ENOUGH?  I DON’T KNOW…NEED INPUT FROM OUR READERS.

CHANCE ENCOUNTER by Josh Manning

I really hope this is not a foreshadow of me, Leslie since I took this new job.  Been two weeks now since I started and I feel like the guy in this video.  I know things will get better as I start to grasp and get a hold of this crazy steep learning curve, but for now….this video has me thinking.  If there are folks out there wanting to ride, think they can’t start later in life or young, have too demanding jobs, not enough time…..you need to watch this little “movie”.  I am going to save this one for myself and also see how I am feeling a few months from now.  Enjoy!

Ohlins Mechatronic: Making Suspension Smarter

By Tom Roderick, Jan. 12, 2012, Photography by Ohlins

BMW spearheaded the Electronically Controlled (EC) suspension revolution on production motorcycles by introducing its ESA system in 2005, followed by ESA II in 2008. During this period there’s been no alternative to the stock system. Öhlins is changing that with its Mechatronic EC suspension now available for any BMW R1200GS outfitted with ESA II.

National Geographic Photo Contest 2011

I have not been riding that much these days for a few reasons, mainly because starting a new job I know when your head is full of too much information and “stress” riding a bike can either be cathartic or just not safe.  I am a head person and when I am feeling overwhelmed in an uncontrollable sort of way I should not ride.  My new job is awesome and I am being challenged in ways I have NEVER been challenged before in my entire career.  Not a bad thing at all just so much to consume working for BC Transplant Society as an Organ Donation Coordinator.  Like anything else I will learn this position and become more comfortable with my new environment and responsibilities.

So, what does that have to do with this post?  I have learned something new about myself and that is I love photography more than I knew.  Here are 45 pictures that I can not even put words too and again felt the need to share them even on a BLOG about motorcycles.  For those who feel the need to read about bikes only, I apologize.  For those who appreciate art, skill and such diversity in these pictures, please enjoy.

National Geographic is currently holding its annual photo contest, with the deadline for submissions coming up on November 30. For the past nine weeks, the society has been gathering and presenting galleries of submissions, encouraging readers to vote for them as well. National Geographic was kind enough to let me choose among its entries from 2011 for display here on In Focus. Gathered below are 45 images from the three categories of People, Places, and Nature, with captions written by the individual photographers. [45 photos]

The Top 50 ‘Pictures of the Day’ for 2011

THE PICTURE TITLED “WAIT FOR IT” IS SO FREAKING COOL AND THE “BEST SIDE CAR” IS TOO!  I HAVE NO IDEA HOW SOME OF THESE PICTURES COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN!

VANCOUVER MOTORCYCLE SHOW – ABBOTSFORD,BC

Today was motorcycle show day for us.  Although the weather really smarten up and actually was pretty nice out we drove anyway because Cheryl is not feeling well.  I think everyone in the lower mainland must have headed out to the show today because the temperature was above freezing and there was no snow coming down.

First Look: 2012 Honda NC700X

Just not sure what to make of what Honda is doing over there….this bike looks a bit like a Multistrada but like the article says what will folks use this bike for?  We are always looking for that one bike to do it all…we don’t have the $$ or the garage space to by different bikes for different occasions.  This one is not an option for us but for who?  I am not sure….maybe commuters?

It’s difficult to figure out from looking at the new 2012 Honda NC700X exactly what it will be used for. A beginner bike for someone moving up to a motorcycle from a scooter, or a cool way for someone to get back into motorcycling. The perfect commuter? A tamed-down adventure bike?

It might just be a bit of everything. Or what you decide to make of it.
