I think the new 1200GS has just kicked that size bike out of the park. BMW was smart to try to keep this a secret! Now, all you riders who have bought Triumph, Yamaha, or any other big ADV bike recently do you wish you waited? This really looks like a sweet ride and it does look leaner too!
The INTERMOT 2012 in Cologne one of the most important motorbike shows worldwide.
BMW Motorrad presents the new R 1200 GS and other highlights.
That is a tempting bike but if history holds I will wait for year 1 to go through the bug workouts, before pulling the trigger. Still have another years warranty on the F800.
We may never buy one of these because of it’s size and weight for off road. If we get into the touring style pavement only…we would go for luxury….Sport Touring style…;-)
What a wonderful bit of engineering, can’t wait to see the updated adventure version!
This is a huge change for the 1200 bikes….sort of what I was wishing for with the 800…well, at least an adjustable seat for the 800….oh well…this is what they call industrial psychology…they make subtle or big changes and we the consumer keep buying!
So true, the Japanese have that down to an art with 4-5 year generations with their cars, and doing a mid-life refresh after the 2nd or 3rd year… for the R1200GS they refreshed it with traction control and more power in 2008 and new fairings and cylinder head in 2010 but it was effectively the same bike from 2004. Those little changes were enough to keep it looking fresh and keep it BMW’s bestselling bike… I would expect in another 5 years or so, the revamp (rather than refresh) of the F8 will be a similar step forward to what we’ve seen here. Saving pennies now 🙂
