all people involved in t his project have been getting thousands of positive comments and messages. To the point of being overwhelming to Cheryl and many others. That is a good thing! TWEET this to @theellenshow 😉
It Gets Bettervideo project has received across the country.Championed by officers in the Surrey RCMP’s Youth Unit and supported by police officers and civilian employees across Metro Vancouver, the video is aimed at Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered youth.
I think some of us were a little shocked, initially, by the amount of attention it has received, says Surrey RCMP Constable Cheryl Letkeman, who came up with the idea for the RCMP to produce a video and join the It Gets Better movement.
Hopefully through word of mouth and the power of social media, this video will reach youth who are grappling with this issue. Ultimately it is about making a lasting connection and providing the support necessary to make it better.
The project was supported by RCMP Senior Management who shared the same desire to showcase the powerful and personal stories of some of their employees with those who may be struggling or even help those who are looking for ways to start the conversation.
We are very proud of our officers, support staff, and volunteers who contributed to such a meaningful and impactful project,
says Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy.
By sharing their stories, the hope is to increase understanding, acceptance, and open communications among youth and adults in our communities. We too hope to see a diverse group of youth flourish in school and society.
This project complements other initiatives undertaken by the Surrey RCMP and its partners to address the issue of bullying in our community. Look for upcoming announcements on initiatives such as the Stop Bullying Film contest in the days and weeks to come.
