Day one of our deck building project was yesterday….only taken us 9 years to get motivated to actually finish the backyard. We will be building 3 decks in the end….well, Cheryl will. I am the laborer, mule and runner. Cheryl has a way to do things and I find if you get out of her way and help when she asks, all is good. We have a lot to do in a short period of time…but we hope to get her done.
To give you an idea of what we are capable of doing together, we landscaped our entire backyard in 2004 and built this garden literally by hand and wheel barrel. We could not get a Bob Cat in the back after the houses were built. There are hundreds of senior Allan Blocks in the 1300 sq Ft garden, hundreds of Junior blocks, 7 retaining walls, irrigation system and we planted all the plants as well.

Stay tuned for the final evolution and transformation of our yard. Motivation?? Saving money doing it ourselves and our wedding. We will have my family, Leslie’s coming from NEW YORK in August and as Cheryl would say, “We need to clean up our trashing looking yard.”

Day 1, planning the decks actual install, dealing with a wicked slope of the cement patio and adjusting the how the level the deck as we go. Figured it out after a few possibilities.

Hope to get a lot more done today…once we get this framing complete the next 2 decks should be easier…we shall see…,I consider this an adventure of sorts too! 😉
Awesome job on the backyard. Looks great. I’m sure the deck will turn out just as well.
I think it will look cool, warm and inviting. We are planing on landscape lights and in the future maybe even an outdoor fireplace. So much potential….we are excited to see how this unfolds.
LOL. I wish my yard looked that “trashing”.
Great job on the retaining walls. Obviously well prepped to still be level after 10 years.
We bought a house with contractor installed interlock / retaining walls that didn’t look that good after 5 years.
Cheryl calls it “white Trash” but I thought that was not PC…shaping up though..today we almost finished deck #1

thanks for the reblog
Sure! I’m a landscraper myself and couldn’t help notice the back yard, really cool design. privacy, plant variety but not too massive and oppressive, I like it!
Just out of curiosity, what region is this?
Lovely garden!
I am looking forward to the finished projects. Thx!
