AltRider Upper Crash Bars Assembly for the BMW F 800 GS
We hope coming out in March. Yep TT had them first but since we have AltRider bars on our bikes, we shall be getting these for a few reasons. I believe they will offer more protection but also we will mount Aux lights to them. Since BMW raised the signals on the 800GS it’s been difficult for us to really find that sweet spot for LED lights. The upper bars will provide a great location and then of course the extra protection for the bike.
Coming Soon! While AltRider lower crash bars guard your engine from trail damage, add protection to the front fairings and radiator of your F 800 GS with a set of upper crash bars. The upper crash bars make a perfect spot to mount auxiliary lights on, keeping them far above the ground and out of harm’s way. How tall is too tall?
encore due to emails asking this question….
Advgrrl Motorcycle Adventures & More
Most pics can be enlarged!
I have been asked many times “how can you ride such a tall bike”? So, I have put together some pics to try to show as close as I can with the specs I know what I might look like on all the recent bikes I have owned or “borrowed”. My height is 5’5″, well almost 5’5″ 😉 with an in seam of 30.5 inches.
Cheryl is about 5’5″ and her in seam is 31.5. Big difference when it comes to our ’13 BMW F800GS bikes. She has more footing than I will ever have. So, this post is for the vertically challenged.
I have hopes that a few in seam inches will not deter anyone from buying the bike of their dreams…where there is a will there is a way. Trust me I should know…I am shortish and I have ridden successfully, comfortably, confidentially…

Winter Getaway Part II
Over night the resort filled up a bit more and it was my lone bike among all cars.
Yesterday I had planned on exploring on the bike the surrounding area but after a beautiful sunrise…
…sea fog rolled in not only around the water but inland too. It was destined to stick around the entire day. So, after having a great yet a bit expensive breakfast at the Cedars restaurant I walked around looking at cottages for sale in the area and went to the beach. Winter Getaway Part I
While many of you in the Northern Hemisphere are watching out your windows with despair and your bikes are all tucked in until the thaw…here out on the usual wet coast of BC we have an unusual break in the dreary weather and I happen to have the weekend off. Temperatures are freezing in the morning but by afternoon yesterday, today and hopefully tomorrow we are seeing double digits Celsius.
Top 10 Adventure Motorcycles for Shorter Riders
I love finding articles that deal with real life challenges for those of us who want to ride an ADV bike so badly but have been cursed with being vertically challenged. This article was sent to me by a FB page reader from ADV Pulse
ADV bikes as I have said before can be the right bike for you despite seat height. I am proof…5′ almost 5″ 😉 and an inseam of 30.5. Plus, I am a grrl, I have thighs that push my legs out even further than a guy while sitting on the seat making the ground that much further on my F8. But you want to know the truth? I was intimidated buying a regular height BMW F800 at first. But now over 11,000 KM’s later I would have regretted getting the low suspension because I am a confident, not cocky rider who can ride my bike safely and with ease. I am mindful as to where I park more so but in the end I have absolutely NO issues with the seat height. So, lesson? There is an ADV bike out there for you….don’t under estimate you riding abilities as well don’t over-estimate them as well.
Know you will get used to not being flat-footed, you will adjust your riding habits to the bike you ride. Enjoy the search….and I think articles like this sure will hit home for some of you….at least you can see there are a few ADV/DS bikes out there that might make you feel comfortable enough to buy.
Trying to find an Adventure Motorcycle with a reasonable seat height can be a frustrating experience. Adventure Bikes are some of the tallest motorcycles in existence. Their long-travel suspension smooths out the bumps off-road, but it also gives them a tall seat that makes it hard to touch both feet on the ground.

2014 BMW F800GS ADVenture
I was at my dealer the other day and speaking with Sheldon, the informative and more than a sales guy we buy our ADV bikes from…and he was telling more about his father who bought the F800 ADV model. Sheldon tells me and I have heard this from other owners, that the ADV F8 is certainly worth the extra coin. If Cheryl and I were going to buy again, and if this version was out we would have bought it over the standard GS. Why? The extra’s BMW have added to this bike as well as the larger tank seem to actually work…such as the almost upright touring shield. I hear that it actually works for many riders of all sizes and has a great mounting location for your GPS. Continue reading “2014 BMW F800GS ADVenture”
Travel compilation 2013
Great commentator and follower of the blog, George shows his BMW bikes, his 2013 travels and reviews all in one video. Godd stuff George…any questions post the on this post and I am sure George will add his insight.

HEIDENAU K60 SCOUT TIRES | MC TESTED
Funny we have been using these tires since 2010 and surprised this reviewer just heard of them. We get tons of mileage out of them and I would disagree on one thing. Not a 50/50 tire, more like 60/40. 😉 We have them on our bike 24/7, 365 days a year.
Have them on our F800’s right now…and would only use these for where and how we ride.

BMW Motorrad sets sales record again
The R 1200 GS was BMW’s biggest seller for 2013.
The hits just keep on rollin’ in for BMW Motorrad.
Yesterday, BMW announced they’d set an all-time sales record again – for the third year in a row. The company sold 115,215 bikes worldwide in 2013, up from 2012′s previous all-time high of 106,358 bikes. That’s an 8.3 per cent increase – not bad, considering how some of their competition is still struggling to deal with the collapse of the global economy. Russian Mother Takes Magical Pictures of Her Two Kids With Animals On Her Farm
Had to post these amazing pictures. Some say photo-shopped, I say beautiful and I don’t care and I can’t tell. Such an eye for composition, lens choice, lighting..well, overall I think talent.
These wonderful photographs by Elena Shumilova plunge the viewer into a beautiful world that revolves around two boys and their adorable dog, cat, duckling and rabbit friends. Taking advantage of natural colors, weather conditions and her enchanting surroundings, the gifted Russian artist creates cozy and heartwarming photography that will leave you amazed.
The boys in the photographs are the photographer’s sons and the animals belong to the farm she runs. “I largely trust my intuition and inspiration when I compose photos. I get inspired mainly by my desire to express something I feel, though I usually cannot tell exactly what that is” Shumilova explained to BoredPanda.
Rural settings, natural phenomena and the changing seasons seem to be the greatest stimuli in her works. “When shooting I prefer to use natural light – both inside and outside. I love all sorts of light conditions – street lights, candle light, fog, smoke, rain and snow – everything that gives visual and emotional depth to the image,” the photographer said.
Shumilova told us her passion for photography manifested in early 2012 when she got her first camera. Her most recent equipment includes the Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera and a 135mm lens. As a mother who doesn’t want to miss out on her growing children, she says she shoots every day and processes the images at night.
We suggest you take a cup of tea, lean back comfortably in your armchair and browse this beautiful collection of Elena Shumilova’s photographs.

First UK ride: Suzuki V-Strom 1000 review
Thanks George as always for sending me this link…interesting review, seems pretty honest to me.
Suzuki’s new adventure-tourer is good but feels more the product of sales strategy than any desire to outclass the competition

2014 Ural Gear-Up Sidecar Review
This bike has always intrigued me….
Until now, riding a Ural sidecar has been an exercise in survival. With engineering dating back to before the Second World War, things like performance, handling and braking were, in lieu of a clever analogy, just plain terrible. For the first time fitted with fuel-injection, disc brakes on all three wheels, a hydraulic steering damper and dozens of other changes, the revised 2014 model range is supposed to fix all that, dragging these classic bikes into the realms of modern performance and safety. Can they? Find out in this world exclusive 2014 Ural Gear-Up Sidecar review. Continue reading “2014 Ural Gear-Up Sidecar Review”
Dear Motorcycle Industry
This is an awesome article for all the female riders out there….I find it kind a funny but so true too…hope the industry starts to get it and more women out there express their own opinions about how we are perceived as riders…

Be Aware and be smart
We’ve recently been caught in the grip of a particularly cold blast of winter weather. So it bears repeating, from a previous Touring Tip, some of the additional risks of riding in cold weather. Here are seven worth keeping in mind: Continue reading “Touring Tip: Risk of Winter Riding”
