I wish I could be in this run….Welcome to Canada 2014! I need to find a way to get involved….
2014 BMW GS Trophy: Off-Road Olympics
Every two years (since 2008) BMW holds a competition to see which GS rider is the best in the world. In 2014 that contest is coming to North America for the first time. In September, teams from all over the world will descend on western Canada to vie for the top spot. Though the GS Trophy is primarily a riding competition, not all of the individual challenges will involve the motorcycles directly. Previously, the events held in Tunisia (2008), South Africa/Swaziland/Mozambique (2010), and Chile/Argentina (2012) all featured the F 800 GS. This time, however, the teams will be on the R 1200 GS. The ride will cross the Rocky Mountains between Vancouver and Calgary giving participants the chance to face some extremely tough terrain. Check out the video below for an idea of what’s in store for the 2014 edition.

You’re in the BMW Trophy every day of the year in B.C. you lucky puppies! Getting involved in the organasation of such a venue can be good fun as well.
Is there an annual Canadian BMW GS Challenge? I have participated three times in the German Unstoppable GS Challenge (UGSC) in which the best riders were chosen to represent Germany, Austria and Switserland in the bi-annual BMW Trophy. Look for it on YouTube for some nice footage.
I have never really paid attention to the GS series. But now I wished I had and maybe even attended the try outs.
If you click my name, you can see some pics on my website. Every UGSC is different, but the idea remains the same: to have fun on your all road bike. The German event goes down at the Touratech factory in Bavaria’s Black Forest, such a nice place to be om a GS!
