If you build customs in Florida or the southeastern States, chances are you’ll know Moe Colors. Based in Tampa, Moe Roberts paints bikes for big-time builders like Dime City Cycles and Greg Hageman, and he’s also in demand for work on custom guitars.
BIKE EXIFThis is Moe’s own ride, and like his paint, it’s a class act. At first glance you’d never guess, but it started life as a regular ol’ 1969 Honda CB750. Today it’s an understated, stylish bobber, built on and off over two years with the help of Floyd’s Garage of Interlachen, a couple of hours north on Interstate 75.
The motor in this CB750 is a ’74 model, punched out to 836cc with the help of Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons. Power is boosted still further by dual Mikuni carbs and an electronic ignition system, both supplied by Honda specialists Cycle X. (The rebuilt transmission, tank, rear fender and speedo are also Cycle X items.) The super-clean foot controls are from TC Brothers.
I usually associate bobbers with Triumphs or Harleys, but the lines on this Honda are beautifully judged—especially the flow from the tank into the rigid rear frame. The seat, a Chopper Shox/Anvil Customs item, fits perfectly.
Moe’s created some pretty wild paintjobs over the years, but for his own bike, he’s gone for a subtle black-over-pepper-white scheme.
As most pros know, simple is usually best.
