I decided to purchase a new helmet as a gift to myself for my up and coming cross-country trip. I have been wearing a Shoei Qwest since 2011 which has been a great helmet for the price. Now….I will try the Shoei RF 1200. Just got it…so only impression is it feels quite a bit lighter than my Qwest, fits really snug in a good way and It was a PITA to install my Cardo G4 intercom mount but I think I got it on tight enough.
Will find out today when I take my bike out as well as try out the RF1200. I purchased through RevZilla and as always easy-going company and quick shipping. Check them out by clicking the Ad to the right of this post. Every purchase you make through RevZilla helps support this blog. OK, my shameless plug. Every little bit helps though.
The RF 1200 comes in an assortment of colours and graphics. The price is not too high for a premium helmet. A little over $400 for a solid. Next a few selfies that are not that great quality. Sorry about that…but gives you an idea of shape and there is room for eye glasses. The speakers for your intercom sit nicely tucked away after removing the foam insert so not to touch your ears causing discomfort.
I like how the profile is leaner than most helmets, plenty of chin space for your microphone and the RF seems to have venting in all the right places. But for now, I have no idea how quiet it will be until I hit the road. I will write a better post when I form my opinions. I have to say though this is a sleek high quality feeling helmet that also looks great. I will only have one helmet and I think for ADV riding as well as sport bikes this would be a great helmet to buy. More later with educated thoughts.

I got my new RF1200 two months ago to replace my RF1100. It was noticeably lighter and had a smaller profile than my old helmet. I didn’t have fun installing my Cardo on the new helmet either! So far, I love it. It was snug for the first 2 hours or so but fits great now. Much less wind noise and less drag on my neck and shoulders, too. The Shoei rep told me that they were going to produce a photo-gradient visor for this helmet. It should be out soon!
Enjoy your new helmet! -Colleen
I think I will enjoy this helmet for sure…thanks Colleen
