Today was an interesting day. Not driving but people. 2 random acts of kindness and a confession. 2 men paid for my coffees today after they heard I was moving, jobless and homeless. Of course I elaborated but they both at different times felt compelled to help, and get this…they both thought I was in my 30’s. Flattered to say the least and thanked them without saying you didn’t have too. The last guy actually threw me a $20 bill…and said “you seem pretty smart, are you? I know you are but here’s a $20…now put it to good use and best of luck.” 😇
Next guy I ran into owns a cattle feed lot. OMG, I hate those lots and they also make me really want to be a veggie. In any case, not about me. He told me this funny little story. He had cattle that did not like being kept in a small area full of food. He swears this cattle was starving himself to death because he knew what was up. This particular male would stand by the gate, refuse to eat or even have anything to do with the other cattle/herd. He went on to say he was forced to let him out and roam. He named this male determined. Now a family “pet” and is healthy and eats. I said politely, that is one smart BULL. He laughed and we parted. Day 12 was spent just cruising along from Billings, Montana to Deadwood, South Dakota. Although much of the drive was flat I still find the surrounding in this area to be beautiful. Weather was great, not too hot and I really did not stop much. I wanted to get to the Blackhills, SD where I knew I was going to get a cabin and stay for two nights. Needed to clean out my car, reorganize my “stuff”, just like I do when on my bike and of course sleep and relax.Continue reading “2015 Long Island or Bust Tour – Day 12 & 13”
April 30th 2015 (all pics in any of my posts can be clicked for HI REZ versions)
I feel like I am living the 2002 philosophical travel memoir by Neil Peart, Ghost Rider. I get why he kept going out for his rides.
Everyday the roads I travel are stunning and beautiful. Perfect for a bike or car. However, this day despite what I was seeing my drive felt labored. I knew at some point on this trip my head would give in to what I have left behind. As I get closer to taking my Beagles ashes back to his spot in Wyoming, Cruizer’s rock I call it, I seemed to be feeling quite emotional. Today he would have been 11. Should really call this FIAT fun…if I had to choose 4 wheels to drive the roads I have been on it would be this car…making my trip interesting and engaging…almost as good as my bike. Almost!
What would a car trip be without locking yourself out of the said car? Day 3 and did it. Luckily I locked myself out in a parking lot full of fishermen(women). I was going to have Fiat Roadside come bail me out but a bunch of crafty folks ended up using some fishing line with a hook to snag my keys. They were able to “catch” them and bring them up to the sun roof. My trusty stick did not work for any of us by itself. Continue reading “2015 Long Island or BUST Tour – Day 3 & 4”
Thanks to my friend Wayne I have changed to the title of this trip. As he pointed out I crossed the border into the USA in about 45 mins after I left BC. 👍 Day 2 was a day that I forgot about why I left BC and that I was moving. I actually felt like I was on a vacation of sorts and just had fun riding through the Cascades in my car. Beautiful mountainous roads, ones that a biker would die for really. One area I wanted to go was blocked by snow but I did get some altitude at this time of year.
April 22, 2015 – An important day to remember. The day I left BC for New York after my 18 years of growing up in Canada. Now, Dual citizen, I am returning to where it all started. I mean where I was born.
Seems like I have done a full circle. Circle of my life in a way. My transition to the States won’t be an easy one. I never had an adult life there. Left soon after grad school.
So much has been going on since my last post. Too much it seems because it’s making time fly. I leave April 22nd. Leave BC, Canada for New York to start. I am driving my car and heading to where? I will have my SPOT on and post a link to my Spotwalla page soon if anyone’s interested. I know I am not on two wheels….
but I get to drive this fun little car and I am going to go places I have never been on previous X Country trips.
I received this notice today from the Federal Government of Canada…
