Today the riding on the island of Java was not so much ‘joy riding’ as it was joy to still be alive! I experienced one of my closest calls with a charging 4×4. I held my breath and waited for the slam as the truck slid over the white line into our lane. I made a small last minute adjustment with a quick flick of the wrist and twist of the hips and ‘whoosh’, it skimmed my pannier leaving a smear of white paint across my country flags. I have been following this couple for years now and they are truly a couple of adventurers and pioneers! They are now riding two rebuilt BMW’s and are getting the recognition they deserve from the ADV world. They both take awesome photos too!
With no problems whatsoever getting our bikes out of Indonesian customs in Belawan, we took a deep breath and decided to take to the road straight away.

This latest 2RTW video update from Simon & Lisa covers the months of rebuild work as Simon’s 1150GS is resurrected after his accident on Borneo in 2011. The video highlights the struggle to get both bike and rider fit enough to get back on the road. Lisa’s F650GS also gets an over-haul and at last all those temporary ‘on the road’ repairs get put right. Watch as these two Adventure riders prepare for the next leg of the amazing around the world journey and are helped along the way from friends around the globe.
