After 2.5 months there is still a glitch…

I have moved back to the States from Canada just a little over 2 months ago. The Transition back has been not without complications.

2015 Long Island or Bust Tour – Days 23 & 24

It’s that time to get to Long Island….😊  I am in Pennsylvania right now and will be heading out soon to finish this incredible X Country trip in my very fun Fiat 500L.

Fiat

Love this car, it did well on this trip and it really reminds me of my F800GS on 4 wheels.

2015 Long Island or Bust Tour – Day 9 (My head)

April 30th 2015 (all pics in any of my posts can be clicked for HI REZ versions)

I feel like I am living the 2002 philosophical travel memoir by Neil Peart, Ghost Rider.  I get why he kept going out for his rides.

Best route for a car or bike
Best route for a car or bike

Everyday the roads I travel are stunning and beautiful.  Perfect for a bike or car.  However, this day despite what I was seeing my drive felt labored.  I knew at some point on this trip my head would give in to what I have left behind.  As I get closer to taking my Beagles ashes back to his spot in Wyoming, Cruizer’s rock I call it, I seemed to be feeling quite emotional. Today he would have been 11. Continue reading “2015 Long Island or Bust Tour – Day 9 (My head)”

2015 Long Island or Bust Tour – Day 5

April 26th 2015

I ended my day seeing this pair of Great Horn Owls.  Roosting by their nest.  So uninhibited and so beautifully perched.  Such an amazing creature and HUGE.

FIAT 500L TREKKING

Should really call this FIAT fun…if I had to choose 4 wheels to drive the roads I have been on it would be this car…making my trip interesting and engaging…almost as good as my bike.  Almost!

What would a car trip be without locking yourself out of the said car?  Day 3 and did it.  Luckily I locked myself out in a parking lot full of fishermen(women).  I was going to have Fiat Roadside come bail me out but a bunch of crafty folks ended up using some fishing line with a hook to snag my keys. They were able to “catch” them and bring them up to the sun roof.  My trusty stick did not work for any of us by itself. Continue reading “2015 Long Island or BUST Tour – Day 3 & 4”

Long Island or Bust Tour – Day 2

April 23 2015

Thanks to my friend Wayne I have changed to the title of this trip.  As he pointed out I crossed the border into the USA in about 45 mins after I left BC.  👍 Day 2 was a day that I forgot about why I left BC and that I was moving.  I actually felt like I was on a vacation of sorts and just had fun riding through the Cascades in my car.  Beautiful mountainous roads, ones that a biker would die for really.  One area I wanted to go was blocked by snow but I did get some altitude at this time of year.

Day I became a Canadian Citizen

April 22, 2015 – An important day to remember.  The day I left BC for New York after my 18 years of growing up in Canada.  Now, Dual citizen, I am returning  to where it all started.  I mean where I was born.

Seems like I have done a full circle.  Circle of my life in a way.  My transition to the States won’t be an easy one.  I never had an adult life there.  Left soon after grad school.

ALMOST THERE……

I received this notice today from the Federal Government of Canada…

Canada-2-USA

We sent you a notice on March 26, 2015 to appear and take the oath of citizenship at the citizenship ceremony to be held on April 13, 2015 at 11:30 AM…perfect timing!  New ADV  continues…packing and garage sale…UGH!

Surreal

the reality of me leaving BC is getting closer. Home is being inspected, I have 2 buyers wanting to live in my house.  Most would be jumping for joy!  I still have such mixed emotions and will leave it at that!

So, I treat myself to a good lunch and remind myself that I will get to see my bike soon and there are many many reasons to move back “home”.

Saying Good Bye is NEVER Easy…

March 14th 2015 (videos included)

One of my MOST favorite pictures of Sierra

If you LOVE dogs like I love mine then you will understand why I feel compelled to do an entire post about saying good-bye to my best friends.  One of the hardest things over the year has been knowing that life changes comes with many consequences.

Cheryl took this photo

Since I am picking up and moving to the USA it may appear I am deserting my dogs or somehow I let Cruizer my Beagle down when I left for my X Country therapy ride after my separation. Continue reading “Saying Good Bye is NEVER Easy…”

Got myself a little entertainment for this trip…my Mini Bose

Yesterday, January 10th, 2015 my new buddy and friend Mike came over to assist with checking over my bike before my trip.  Mike is like family now, met through the virtual world, rode together on a Dual Sport BC ride, have the same dealer and he even bought my ex’s 2013 F800GS White Fluffy bike. 😉  Hopefully he will post some pics of what he has done to that bike.

Hope to leave January 15.

Canada to the USA….oh, the joys of moving back “home”

Update: I learned how to import vehicles into the USA from Canada today. Not terribly difficult but nonetheless work. I had to contact BMW & Fiat USA to apply for letters of compliance. This was after I called the Canadian divisions because that made sense to me.  NOT! 😒 Compliance letters mean my vehicles meet USA DOT and EPA standards. Both vehicles do.

However, since my motorcycle and car were not built-in North America I have to pay 2.5% duty on the Kelly Blue Book values. Just another way to tax us. After I decided what State I will live in I will have a letter of import all ready from the border and just have to get them inspected. More money and will have to change the insert for my speedometer to MPH versus KPH. I can get that insert from a BMW and Fiat dealer.
