Long Island or Bust Tour – Day 2

April 23 2015

Thanks to my friend Wayne I have changed to the title of this trip.  As he pointed out I crossed the border into the USA in about 45 mins after I left BC.  👍 Day 2 was a day that I forgot about why I left BC and that I was moving.  I actually felt like I was on a vacation of sorts and just had fun riding through the Cascades in my car.  Beautiful mountainous roads, ones that a biker would die for really.  One area I wanted to go was blocked by snow but I did get some altitude at this time of year.

Guest Post – Europe 2014: Day 7 – Prague to Wemding

We left Prague around 9:30am towards Germany. Traffic was reasonably light and before long we were in the rural countryside.

Around 11:30am we had a slight setback. We were riding down a gentle hill at about 70kph/45mph (for reference the speed limit was 90kph/55mph) and without any warning at all the bike popped out from under us and we slid to a stop on the tarmac. As I was sliding I could see the bike sliding on its left side ahead of me until it reached the grassy shoulder where the wheels caught and the bike flipped over onto its right side.

We both got straight up to our feet and looked at each other, completely perplexed and somewhat shocked. After determining that nothing hurt, we realised with relief that neither of us were injured and our gear had taken the brunt of the fall. I had slid on my left side and Zev had slid on his bottom, dragging his left arm.

A few seconds later a young chap came along and stopped to help us put the bike upright and then carried on his way. I noticed there was oil all over the engine and tyres and realised we had ridden onto an unnoticed slick of tarry oil. From the direction we were travelling, the angle of the sun made it blend into the road, looking like just another patched area of tarmac.

I called 112 (emergency line) and explained what happened and they sent out the police. Meanwhile I took photographs of the area and the damaged parts of the bike. I called my insurer and went through the details. Continue reading “Guest Post – Europe 2014: Day 7 – Prague to Wemding”

What To Do When The Police Pull You Over

I think this is an entertaining, sort of funny and somewhat useful article….and BTW..not all cops are guys and not all riders are male as well…;-)

There you are, minding your own business, doing 10 mph over the speed limit, when Johnny Law pulls out for a bit of revenue gathering. Being the law-abiding citizen that you are, you pull to the side of the road. But, what comes next? This is what to do when the police pull you over.

What You Need To Have With You
License, registration and proof of insurance. For the bike you’re riding and it all needs to be up-to-date and valid. It can be a good idea to keep your documents in a sealed, waterproof bag under your seat where they’ll remain in good condition and where you can’t forget them. Never borrow a friend’s bike or rent one without first making sure you have all the papers and that those papers have the right dates on them. Officer In Charge (OIC) Awards & RCMP Open House

Awards were given out the other night for outstanding service and Cheryl got one for her video “It Gets Better”.  6 months ago this video was released and has made an impact around the world.

Many officers were commended for their bravery and contributions they all have made to the community.  Impressive and I got to hear many great stories that never seem to make the news.  Living with Cheryl we both get frustrated with how the media portrays cops and how often the public hear about the bad and ugly.  Well…the OIC awards was all about the good and was awesome to be a part of it.
