My initial reason for heading down to Washington State yet again was really to get to Gerbing

2014 – A Year to Forget but I am still THANKFUL…

2014 has been one hell of a year for me and still is on some levels.  Separation, leading to divorce, death of my beloved 10-year-old Beagle, Cruizer…work issues, deciding to leave Canada after almost 18 years and start over?  So, what to do?  Do I dwell on all the misfortunes I have experienced or do I try to hold on to the things I am and should be grateful for?  Seems like such an easy question to answer doesn’t it?  I should instinctively say I am THANKFUL for being alive, my family, my friends, my passion for organ donation, my dogs, my bike, my many many trips I am able to take, yet I am not completely convinced I feel this thanks deeply in my heart.

I think after I write this post and I’m reminded how fortunate I am, I hope to end with a truly genuine thanks. Let’s see how I feel as I write and post some of my favorite pictures from the Fall of 2014.  I don’t BS, been told I offer too much information, TMI, but again this is me and what I like to do is actually write how I am felling in the moment and I just happen to share it with well?  A few people around the world. 😉

Crossing the Border – Day trippin’ in Washington State


October 30th 2014

I made another last minute decision to take a 2 night ride across the border into Washington State.  First time I think I have had no dogs to care for and absolutely no other real responsibilities  at home.  This prompted me to get away yet again. So, off I left around 1430 on Thursday to head down to Washington.  Short back country ride to La Conner for the night.

30 Hour Getaway Part II


Gear this time of year is important to me.  Making sure I can get warm when needed, stay dry and comfortable on my bike are all part of making even a short trip safe.

I traded my AP Scouts for the new Toucan boots.  Gore Tex and more of a MX boot in the end.  Why?  I wanted higher coverage for my shins, sturdier boot overall and I do have to admit I like the Gore guarantee. As many who read this blog know first hand our everyday lives can get in the way of our hobbies.  Since January 2012 until present day, Cheryl and I have both changed our careers.  Leslie joining BC Transplant as an In Hospital Organ Donation Coordinator/Organ Donation Specialist and Cheryl still with the RCMP but now well into her apprenticeship to become a Forensic Expert.  With this reality of ours, getting away on the bikes for a long stretch of time is not happening as of late. So….what to do???  Make the best of the time we get off and get away.

Last Day for our KLIM Adventure Trip

As you will see from the pictures you can tell the last day of our trip to Idaho and back was typical “wet” coast weather.  While riding in temperatures from 12 C to 42 C…basically low 50’s to triple digits in Fahrenheit, we almost had to turn the heat on for the last push.

Last day of riding for us was actually something we expected…pouring rain almost all the way home from Fort Stevens.  But in meanwhile who does not LOVE a fire while camping…?  The second to last day was a mix bag.  We just took our time and enjoyed exploring.

KLIM Adventure Rally (July 6th – July 20th 2012) part II

This years summer trip was way shorter than last years epic ride with Triumph Canada, 2 Triumph Tiger XC bikes to Alaska.  Not 44 days long but only 11.  Why?  Leslie started a new job in January and was not able to get a large amount of time off this summer.  As a matter of fact every day Leslie used for this break from work was banked OT not vacation time because she is not able to take “vacation” until her probation is over.  BTW, should have been over July 16th.

KLIM Trip

In any case, every ride no matter how long or short can turn out to be an adventure and this was no different.  This trip we contended with temperatures ranging from 12 C (53 F) to 42 C (107.6 F).  The beginning of this trip we saw triple digits. Of you spend 48 hours out of Canada you get to bring in tax free booze and smokes…this is heading out but coming back in we always take advantage of the booze at least…Beer!

Stopped in Belling ham to have a bite to eat and buy some new sleeping bags.  We learned quickly on our Alaskan trip we needed better bags, and we got 2 Big Anges Roxy Ann bags made for women.  Mummy bags with more room for the hips, you can also slide your Thermarest pad inside the bottom of the bag so no more losing your pad when you roll over.  Spent 2 nights in them and so far so good.  They are rated to +15.
