Clearing the Head

Short photo gallery of an area once again near our house.  East in an area called the Fraser Valley.  Friday is it was cold for us…below freezing with a wicked win chill but ever so sunny.  I often post about my area mainly for those who are not from here.  There is so much to see this time of year if you like the outdoors.  Wild life, snow capped mountains, skiing for those who love to do that…still off road riding in many areas too.  No bike today, too much black ice when I left in the morning.

So, take a look around.  I saw plenty of bald eagles around the Fraser river…many immature ones learning how to survive by the few adults who are now repairing old nests and getting ready for our 2014 eaglet season.  Many eagles down south have all ready laid eggs and have off springs developing into fledglings.  We start later up here.  February and March “N”estorations time and April egg time.

Bald Eagle Haven – all pics can be enlarged

The weekend of November 23-24, 2013, Cheryl and I headed out about an hour east of where we live to get away for the weekend and enjoy the Bald Eagle frenzy that happens every year around here.  Thousands of salmon come to the Chehalis Flats where the Fraser and Harrison Rivers meet to spawn.  It’s also this time of year when the annual Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival goes on as well.

Around this time of year into January resident and transient eagles come by for their free buffet of food before their nesting season starts around March.  Most are coming from Alaska after the salmon spawned up there and leave after the big freeze. Tons of food for all species so it is also a special time to see normally non-social raptors gets along with so many young and old.  Continue reading “Bald Eagle Haven – all pics can be enlarged”

If you love Bald Eagles….

You need to watch this if you love Bald Eagles like I do.  The weekend of November 23rd, Cheryl and I will be heading out only about an hour east of where we live to check out the annual eagles feast.  Thousands of eagles all ages arrive to feed on the spawning salmon around Harrison Mills, BC.  I go every year but this year Cheryl is coming with her high-powered new work camera.  We don’t have a lens like Christian used in this video, a local photographer but I am certain we will get some great shots.

Enjoy!  We are truly lucky to live so close to this annual phenomenon.

Port Hardy, BC / Eagle Nova Films’ “Outdoor Treasures” Series

Christian Sasse is a local photographer near Vancouver who happens to be someone I met while he was filming and taking pictures of Bald Eagles last year.  I love wild life of all sorts but the majestic Bald Eagle, especially this time of year while the salmon spawn are in an abundance.  Christian, also known as just Sasse is a very talented relatively new photographer in this field and the video below is show casing Port Hardy on Vancouver Island’s north.  We both have not been up there yet but will do one day.  Enjoy a slice of heaven and watch the video Continue reading “Port Hardy, BC / Eagle Nova Films’ “Outdoor Treasures” Series”

There are some things in life that make me feel dated (notice I didn’t use the word “old” LOL). For example, sending a fax, writing in cursive (with a pen) and talking on any phone with a cord (and twirling it around my fingers) are all things that kids born in 2011 might never have the opportunity to experience. I remember back in the days when people would say, “I wish I had my camera with me today, I could have taken some great pictures.” Now that practically everyone has a smartphone, we all have our cameras with us everywhere we go.
