Stalling is back for Leslie’s Bike

Unfortunately, after a GREAT day it has ended poorly. My stalling issue has come back. We have been carrying on with our trip riding all the roads we want to and knew that maybe this problem would come back. It has and too soon. My bike is very hard to start and again I have to keep it above about 1500 RPM’s to keep it from stalling. Our options are not good right now. Whitehorse is not far but tomorrow is Sunday and shops are closed most Monday’s. Also, there is the problem that will a shop know what to do with my bike since it is a Triumph?
Doubt it. What a shame to be real. We had such an awesome day and to come into Skagway limping is such a bummer to me. If this problem can not be fixed quickly enough to get us home then we might need to get home sooner than later. We have 2 weeks left of exploring. It is a safety issue for us not to ride a bike that can not be ridden at low speeds or if I need to suddenly stop the stalling is risky.

Hmmmmmm…not a good way to end and we do not have access to WIFI here only this motel computer. Not a happy camper right now.

Bummer…sorry to hear you have stalling issues again. You were enjoying the Triumphs so much too.
Hopefully you can come across a shop that can help you soon.

WELL THAT DOES IT FOR ME…….AS i MENTIONED EARLIER THE TIGER 800XC WAS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST FOR MY TRIP TO SOUTH AMERICA……..GOING BACK TO THE GS650…..SEEMS THAT SERVICE IS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE….TOO BAD I REALLY LIKED THE TIGER I RODE AT AMERICADE.
HOPE YOU GET YOUR BIKE FIXED QUICKLY

I wouldn’t give up so easily on the TIger. All bikes have issues ours is just being highlighted because of this trip and how far we are away from shops. But we are only 180 KM from Whitehorse and there might be a Honda dealer open on Monday. So, although I am tired and rather have nothing go wrong with the bikes, this might just be a good thing for Triumph in the end and better for the owners of these bikes if a fix can be found. We are not giving up on these bikes yet, they are too good!

Inform Triumph about the stalling issue (again!) and point them to your blog. Tell them it’s read by bikers around the world. If they won’t fix it straight away, then tell them you will use a BMW to finish the ride. That should get things moving!

we are working on this. The bike seems to have calmed down after Cheryl adjusted the throttle cable a bit. But we do not know for sure. We are also not sure anyone in Whitehorse could help us if it has to do with an update or something. We are going to see how it goes in the morning and take it from there. We are indeed technically responsible for maintaining these bikes on our own.

You girls maybe technically responsible for keeping the bikes running but Triumph should be there when problems arise which you or a local garage can’t fix. After all, they are collecting vital data on the bikes and no doubt will strip the bikes down to see how parts performed through the tough conditions. It is in their interest to keep you on the road!
Anyway girls, your both doing a great job and I do wish the rain would stop for the rest of your journey. The Tigers should be used to all that rain, being built in the UK 🙂

Triumph is being good to us and we want to stay on the road and will. Getting new chains installed this Friday just to keep us going. The stock chains have had it. Thanks for your concerns and we are really doing well and just living with the temporary fixes we have come up with for the stalling.

My Dad had the EXACT same problem with his new BMW on our Alaska trip a few weeks back…..if he was under 1500 rpms his bike would stall. When we got back he phoned BMW and I *believe* they said it was due to a faulty sensor and he would have to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. I’ll ask him to confirm and get back to you because your description of the problem is literally exactly the same as what happened with his Beemer.
