I thought long and hard about the SPOT3 but ended up getting the SPOT2 earlier this week. I thought the Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to send short messages to be really cool but decided that I didn’t want to add the complexity of a smartphone app and ended up just getting the model with buttons.

Review is simple…having the ability to send a LIVE message to 10 people was great especially on our last summers trip. You see my parents and Cheryl’s family tend to worry. My family as well. Tracking a trip and then being able to actually tell them we are really OK with the TM is helpful for piece of mind and the biggest PLUS, we never had to call anyone. I have no problems with the phone app. I did however forget to turn the BT on via the phone when you start up the Connect. Human error. SPOT 2 is just fine. It works and that is what counts..
I hope they add a rechargeable battery to their device one day but other than that I really do not think we would ever take a back country trip alone and without our Connect.

I think you may have answered my next question. WIth it mounted to the bike, can it be wired in to charge continuously?

nope no hard wiring unless you can rig something lol
